Lift the Lethal Lockdown: A plea from devastated small businesses

August, 2020

This short documentary was part of a broader campaign of the IRR to get the government-enforced lockdown lifted by emphasising the pressure it was putting on business owners from all walks of life.

Personal reflections on the project

Observations

  • Never underestimate the time it takes to film and budget for extra time. Invariably, someone will be late, a piece of gear will malfunction or you'll have to do another take.

  • When possible, do a site recce beforehand. This will help you anticipate the conditions you will be filming in.

  • It's important to film at sites with people that are familiar with the surroundings. Particularly when safety is a concern, things such as knowing where to park the car or places to avoid can give you a lot of piece mind.
