A friend of mine wanted to bring her Masters thesis to life with a short documentary that she could showcase at conferences.

Personal reflections on the project

Lessons learnt

  • If you don't ask, you don't get. It was not usual practice for a Masters student to do a documentary to accompany their research but she had the chutzpah and initative to ask her department if they would allow her to and provide some funding for it to.

  • A team with a good attitude is everything. It was such a pleasure working on this project with friends who were eager to put something novel together.

  • Anything is possible, despite your budget. We didn't have a big budget for this production and largely used whatever gear we had available and saved money by camping instead of staying in more formal accommodation.
